Power/progster metallers FORTRESS UNDER SIEGE return after 15 years (!) away from discography with an astonishing full length album! Afer signing with Metal Mad Music Records, the band entered the studio and recorded the too long awaited full length album,"The mortal Flesh of Love", which is FORTRESS UNDER SIEGE's first full length release.

To remind some bio details about the band i have to say that the act formed back in 1992 by Fotis Sotiropoulos(guitars) and John Vasilakis(guitars) after the split up of their former band GLATIATOR. They got to release a homonymous EP in 1996, but remain inactive until 2010 where they managed to hit the studio and record a demo. Though away from the lights of the music industry the band never stopped composing so the big return with "The mortal Flesh of Love" is a mature and eclectic work, an extract by the years of silence...

By the first hearings you will find yourself caught in the seductive magic of the simple yet delicate synthesis and the emotional yet heavy at some points guitar melodies. The keybords complete the almost dreamy atmosphere while rhythm rotates and evolves according to the needs of each bridge or refrain making the experience of the hearing pleasant and worthy for each and every minute. The musical style follows the european power metal pattern without being too melodic or weapy though. The eleven tracks share speed, wonderful melodic lines, sad and darker sections followed by ungry guitars and there is a general feeling of complete.

I guess one could comment on "The mortal flesh of love" that it doesn't sound ... greek at all!And that's unfortunately a complement, even in nowdays!

The album is mixed and produced by Nigel Foxxe and the cover is based on original oil painting of Levan Gogidatze, plus the first officcial video reelased by Metal Mad Music is directed by Bob Katsionis.

So the general conclusion is: Buy it, its good stuff.Period.

Επαναδραστηριοποίηση μιας μπάντας που ήταν ανενεργή από το 1998. Το 2009, για καλό όλων μας, οι Fortress Under Siege ξαναδημιουργούνται και επανέρχονται φέτος με έναν άλμπουμ δυναμίτη, το The Mortal Flesh Of Love . Μια από τις καλύτερες δουλειές που έχω ακούσει τα τελευταία χρόνια από την Ελληνική Metal Μουσική σκηνή...και όχι μόνο!!!

Συνθέσεις δυνατές progressive και power με επιρροές από τους πρωτεργάτες Dream Theater και Fates Warning αλλά και από Dio, Uriah Heep, Iron Maiden, Quensryche και Angra έχουν μια ποιοτική αντίληψη που σε συναρπάζει.

Κιθάρες καταπληκτικές που καλπάζουν πάνω σε ένα επικό Manowar βάθρο και Iron Maiden υπόβαθρο , φωνητικά που ειλικρινά σε κρατούν σιωπηλά μαγεμένο από τις λαρυγγικές ικανότητες του Michael Smeros με πλήκτρα από τον George Georgiou που ντύνουν εξαιρετικά τα κομμάτια.
Επικά θα χαρακτήριζα πολλά από τα τραγούδια τους , που όμως όλα είναι ντυμένα με το μανδύα του Progressive αλλά και με μερικά στοιχεία από Power. Το κυριότερο όμως είναι ότι όλος ο δίσκος προσφέρεται για πολλαπλές ακροάσεις.

Κομμάτια όπως τα Deeds Of All Disgrace,Last Temptation,My Foulest Sin,Gods Of War ( εξαιρετικό) και The Mortal Flesh Of Love είναι από τα κομμάτια που σε καθηλώνουν για ώρα με το δάκτυλο κολλημένο στο repeat και με το νου προσηλωμένο στη μουσική των Fortress Under Siege. Ακόμα και σε πιο ήρεμες στιγμές τους όπως είναι το Night Caress τα φωνητικά αλλά και οι εξαιρετικές μελωδίες που φέρνουν στο μυαλό μου περάσματα από μελωδίες των Uriah Heep τις δεκαετίας του 70 σε απορροφούν μέσα τους. Καταπληκτικό τραγούδι.

Εν κατακλείδι , το άλμπουμ των Fortress Under Siege είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα άλμπουμ που έχω ακούσει τα τελευταία χρόνια. Έχω την εντύπωση ότι το "The Mortal Flesh Of Love" επιβάλλει την ύπαρξη του σε κάθε μουσικόφιλο. Αν αγαπάτε την καλή ποιοτική μουσική, τότε σίγουρα θα λατρέψετε αυτό το άλμπουμ.

Reactivation of a band was inactive since 1998. In 2009, Fortress Under Siege reformed and returned this year with an album that I can say is a true dynamite , The Mortal Flesh Of Love. One of the best works I've heard in recent years by the Greek Metal music scene ... and beyond!

Configurations possible progressive and power influenced by the pioneers Dream Theater and Fates Warning and also Dio, Uriah Heep, Iron Maiden, Quensryche and Angra have a qualitative concept that fascinates.

Amazing guitars galloping on an epic Manowar's style and influenced by Iron Maiden background, vocals that frankly you keep yourself to silence bewitched by the laryngeal capacities of Michael Smeros with keys by George Georgiou who dress tracks on an amazing way.

I would characterize many of their songs as Epic metal , but all are dressed in a Progressive cloak with some Power elements. The main thing is that the whole album is available for multiple hearings.

Tracks like Deeds Of All Disgrace, Last Temptation, My Foulest Sin, Gods Of War (excellent track) and The Mortal Flesh Of Love are pieces that captivate you for hours with your finger stuck in repeat button and your mind committed to Fortress Under Siege's music . Even in their quieter moments such as the song "Night Caress" the vocals and the great melodies that bring to mind passages from Uriah Heep tunes of the 70's absorb you within. Amazing song.

In conclusion, the Fortress Under Siege's album is one of the best album I've heard in recent years. I have the impression that "The Mortal Flesh Of Love" requires its existence to any music lover. If you love good quality music, then you'll love this album.. Strongly recommended
